Colorectal Cancer Screening with the Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT)

What is a Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT)?

The Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) is a simple, non-invasive test that checks for hidden (occult) blood in your stool. It is a non-invasive
way to screen for colorectal cancer, as the presence of blood in the stool may indicate polyps or cancer in the colon or rectum.

How the test is performed?

  1. Collection: You will receive a kit with detailed instructions to collect a small stool sample at home.
  2. Handling: Follow the instructions to ensure accurate sample collection and to avoid contamination.
  3. Submission: Return the sample to your health care provider, a Lancet Laboratory depot or a participating pharmacy as soon as
    possible.
